On April 12, 1925, William Claude Dodd and Vivian Adele (Dake) Dodd welcomed their first child at their home in Boone, Betty Jean. She was joined over the years by six siblings. Phyllis, June, Clifton, Donald, Kenneth, and Douglas.
Betty graduated from Boone High School and then married Gerald Everett Grundon in 1951. Upon Gerald’s honorable discharge from the United States Army, he and Betty moved to Grand Junction, where they would spend the rest of their lives together with their three sons, John, Bruce and Gary.
Betty spent her time as a housewife and babysat for various children in the community. She loved to cook and tend her garden and she was always willing to pass along her vast knowledge to the people around her. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and dedicated her time to them whenever she could. She taught them how to be self-sufficient by growing food at home, canning and cooking from scratch. She was able to pass on her experience of growing up frugally.
